Red Lights has created a comprehensive approach that combines education and advocacy and engenders community action. By working with the SCJ Jain School in Surat, Gujarat, Red Lights has engaged more than 200 students by providing them with educational resources. This includes the Read Rights Pamphlets, a three-part series that serves as a primer on key definitions and statistics of reported cases in India. The pamphlets also outline methods of identification, reporting mechanisms, and available hotlines. Another resource is the Red Lights Activity Book, which helps children understand important concepts like safety, personal boundaries, and strategies for getting help. Through five comprehensive chapters, the activity book presents important tools in engaging and accessible ways and provides an age-appropriate and interactive program.
Beyond the classroom, Red Lights aims to extend its reach through advocacy and community collaborations. As such, the Red Lights Pledge mobilizes over 50 businesses to commit to this cause. The pledge outlines goals and practices enshrined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #16: promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions.
Through these mutually reinforcing efforts, Red Lights hopes to be part of the larger effort to create urgent but sustainable changes in the lives of vulnerable groups.
